## How to calculate the percentage of a number?

Simply multiply the percent by the number and divide by 100.

Example how much is 9% of 50

9 X 50 ÷ 100 = 450 ÷ 100 = 4.5

9% of 50 is 4.5

What is the percentage decrease/increase from X
to Y? |

## How o calculate the percentage increase or Decrease?

First: work out the difference (increase) between the two numbers you are comparing.
Difference = New Number – Original Number

Now divide the Difference by the original number and multiply by 100.

% increase = Difference ÷ Original Number × 100.

If the answer is a negative that means this is a percentage decrease.

To calculate percentage decrease:

First: work out the difference (decrease) between the two numbers you are comparing.

Difference = Original Number – New Number

Then: divide the Difference by the original number and multiply by 100.

% Decrease = Difference ÷ Original Number × 100
